Hide and Seek

Playing hide and seek with your dog is not only a great way to bond with them; it is also a way to teach them to actively seek you out. Throughout this class you want to be playing seeking games with your dog to increase their confidence in nose work and their ability to find you. Your sessions of recall training will start off basic at the beginning but as you evolve the training you want to find opportunities to sneak away from your dog and practice recall. Dogs pick up on this relatively quickly if you are consistent. This will start to make your dog pay more attention to you, which is another goal of hide and seek work.

As dogs start to learn that you disappear when they are not paying attention, it will cause them to “check in” (look at you) more. This wants to be rewarded! Check ins are a great thing and it means the dog is thinking about you, encourage that.
